The last of the five major All-American lists has been released, and Notre Dame offensive linemen Quenton Nelson and Mike McGlinchey were named to the first team squad by the American Football Coaches Association.
Nelson has been named a first-team All-American on every list yet released, ensuring his place as Notre Dame's first unanimous offensive lineman since 1993, when Aaron Taylor earned the same honor. The last unanimous pick for Notre Dame was Manti Te'o in 2012, a season in which he was the Heisman Trophy runner up.
Nelson was previously chosen as a first-team selection by the Walter Camp Football Foundation, the Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, the Associated Press and Pro Football Focus.
Nelson was ranked as the nation's top run blocking offensive lineman the nation's top offensive guard according to Pro Football Focus.
Nelson was one of three offensive linemen to earn first-team honors from the five organizations or publications that determine unanimous and consensus All-American honors. The other two were Oklahoma offensive tackle Orlando Brown and Ohio State center Billy Price.
Pro Football Focus, which determines its All-Americans based on grading the entire season, did not have Price or Brown on their first-team list.
McGlinchey was named a first-team All-American by Pro Football Focus, and he was also named a first-team selection by the AFCA, Walter Camp, FWAA, AP and Sports Illustrated. Only Sporting News didn't list him as a first-team pick, naming McGlinchey to its second team.
Pro Football Focus ranked McGlinchey as the nation's top run blocking offensive tackle.
Nelson became the 34th unanimous All-American in Notre Dame history, while McGlinchey becomes the 101st consensus All-American for the Irish.
