Kalani Sitake is 52-20 in his seventh season as BYU's head football coach, but he's never taken on Notre Dame in that role.

When Notre Dame (2-2) and No. 16 BYU (4-1) meet Saturday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas (7:30 p.m. EDT on NBC), it will be the ninth matchup between the two programs. Notre Dame leads the series 6-2 and won the last meeting, a 23-13 victory in South Bend in 2013.

Inside ND Sports is taking a closer look at the Cougars ahead of Saturday's matchup.

Notes from BYU

• Quarterback Jaren Hall has had nine consecutive games passing for 250 yards or more dating back to last year. He has thrown for 250+ in 11 of his last 12 games.

• BYU ranks tied for No. 11 nationally with 63 passing plays of 10 yards or more.

• BYU's defense has allowed a total of 20 points in the first quarter of games this season, the fewest points scored by opponents in any quarter (teams have scored 44 points in the second quarters, 38 points in the third and 30 points in the fourth quarters.)

• BYU has had 37 different defensive players make a tackle.

A couple observations

• BYU's defense likes to rush five against the pass a lot, so Notre Dame needs to be sharp in its pass protection assignments.

• BYU's offense operates almost exclusively in 11 and 12 personnel with 11 used slightly more.
