Kennedy’s assassination. The Orange won 14-7 in the old Yankee Stadium to end the Irish season at 2-7. Which future Fighting Irish All-American made his starting debut that day in the backfield?

Former walk-on Nick Rassas went on to earn All-America honors as a defensive back/return man in 1965, but made his Irish debut as a running back versus the Orange in 1963.

Answer: D. Huarte had started in a 7-6 loss to Purdue, Snow had started at right halfback and Eddy was on suspension at the time. The walk-on Rassas was inserted for the first time (eight carries for 33 yards), and would later earn All-America notice under Ara Parseghian as a defensive back/return man.
