Notre Dame will be making its 40th appearance in a bowl game when it squares off against Oklahoma State in the Fiesta Bowl Jan. 1. That matchup will mark the 25th time the Fighting Irish have played in a New Year’s Six contest (Rose, Sugar, Orange, Cotton, Peach and Fiesta).

Answer: B. Notre Dame has played in the Cotton Bowl eight times and posted a 5-3 mark. This year’s trip to the Fiesta Bowl will be the Irish’s sixth and they have gone 1-4 in the first five. The lone victory was a 34-21 triumph over West Virginia that clinched the national championship for the Irish on Jan. 2, 1989.

Notre Dame has played in the Orange Bowl five times (2-3 record), the Sugar Bowl four times (2-2) and the Rose Bowl twice (1-1). The Irish have yet to make an appearance in the Peach Bowl.
