Is DeShone Kizer coming back to Notre Dame in 2017?

According to the rising senior, that decision still hasn’t been made.

“I still don’t know,” Kizer said after the Echoes awards presentation Friday. “I’m still waiting for my draft grade to get back. We were expecting it today, I don’t know if it got in today. Hopefully early next week we’ll know.”

Kizer, considered a high draft pick by some analysts and scouts, has two seasons of eligibility remaining with the Irish. The deadline to declare for the NFL Draft is Jan. 16, 2017.

A 6-foot-4, 230-pound native of Toledo, Ohio, Kizer threw for 2,925 yards and 26 touchdowns with nine interceptions and rushed for eight touchdowns in 2016.

Kizer was named a team captain for 2017 at Echoes. He was also named the 2016 team Most Valuable Player.

In regard to the NFL decision, Kizer said he’s hoping to make that decision “sooner rather than later.”

“Without playing in a bowl game, if I were to make a decision to leave, it would be best for me to get a couple weeks ahead on the training process that it takes,” Kizer said, “as well as it would be great to get back here and spend the time needed with my teammates to prepare for next season if I do decide to come back.”

Kizer said he and his family have been doing their homework on the decision to stay or go. The grade the NFL Draft Advisory Board — a group of professional football scouting experts who offer opinions as to the likely round the player will be drafted in — gives Kizer will assist him in that decision, he said.

“We’ve collected quite a bit of information,” Kizer said. “The grade will definitely help me out in making that decision.”
