Notre Dame Opponent Recap: Week Five

It was a little bit of a better week for Notre Dame's opponents during week five action combining for a 7-4 mark.

Check out how each of the 11 programs that played this past week fared.

MICHIGAN

Last Week: The Wolverines (4-1) took down Northwestern (1-3) 20-17 in Evanston. After falling behind 10-0, Michigan's defense rose to the occasion and allowed just 202 yards total in the win. Northwestern averaged 0.8 yards per carry (34 for 28 yards).

This Week: Will host Maryland (3-1) on Saturday.

BALL STATE

Last Week: Ball State (2-3) dominated Kent State (1-4) in a 52-24 win at home. Quarterback Riley Neal threw for over 400 yards to pace the offense.

This Week: The Cardinals will face Northern Illinois (2-3) at home.

VANDERBILT

Last Week: Scored a touchdown with under seven minutes to go avoiding an upset with a 31-27 win over Tennessee State (2-1). Running back Ke'Shawn Vaughn rushed for 146 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries in the win.

This Week: Vanderbilt (3-2) will travel to Georgia (5-0).

WAKE FOREST

Last Week: Wake Forest (3-2) bounced back from a blowout loss to the Irish to take down Rice (1-4) 56-24 at home. Wide receiver Greg Dortch caught four touchdowns in the win accumulating 163 yards on 11 catches.

This Week: The Demon Deacons will host Clemson (5-0).

STANFORD

Last Week: Stanford (4-1) never led in a 38-17 loss to Notre Dame (5-0) on the road. The Cardinal offense had just 31 total yards in the second half, including -13 in the fourth quarter.

This Week: David Shaw's group will look to bounce back at home against Utah (2-2).

VIRGINIA TECH

Last Week: After an upset loss to Old Dominion and losing starting quarterback Josh Jackson for several weeks, Virginia Tech (3-1) took down top-25 ranked Duke on the road in a 31-14 victory. Ryan Willis threw for 332 yards and three touchdowns in the win in his first start of the year for the Hokies.

This Week: Virginia Tech will host No. 6 Notre Dame (5-0).

PITTSBURGH

Last Week: Pittsburgh (2-3) allowed 568 yards of offense to top-25 ranked UCF (4-0) in a 45-14 blowout loss.

This Week: The Panthers will host Syracuse (4-1) this week.

NAVY

Last Week: Navy (2-2) had a bye.

This Week: The Midshipmen will travel to Air Force (1-3).

NORTHWESTERN

Last Week: The Wildcats (1-3) blew a 10-0 first quarter lead eventually losing 20-17 to Michigan (4-1). Northwestern, as mentioned above, mustered just 202 yards of offense, including 28 rushing on 34 carries in the loss.

This Week: Set to travel to Michigan State.

FLORIDA STATE

Last Week: Florida State (3-2) intercepted a pass with under two minutes as Louisville (2-3) tried to run out the clock to set up a 58-yard touchdown toss to pull out a 28-24 win. Deondre Francois threw for 294 yards and four touchdowns in the victory.

This Week: The Seminoles will head south to take on rival Miami (4-1).

SYRACUSE

Last Week: Syracuse (4-1) trailed for less than 10 minutes, but fell 27-23 on the road to Clemson (5-0). The Orange rushed for 61 yards on 26 carries in the loss.

This Week: Syracuse will make be on the road against Pittsburgh (2-3).

USC

Last Week: Built a 17-0 lead and held on taking down Arizona (2-3) 24-20. Aca'Cedric Ware rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries in the win. USC totaled 253 yards on 47 carries as a team.

This Week: The Trojans are off until an Oct. 13 matchup on the road against Colorado.
