Cole Mabry’s football future has been decided since February.

Mabry, a three-star offensive tackle from Brentwood (Tenn.) High, picked up an offer from Notre Dame on Junior Day on February 11, and committed a few days later.

Knowing that his college choice is made, Mabry is heading into his senior year focused on one thing; winning a championship.

Mabry said not having to worry about recruiting anymore will allow him to focus 100 percent on his team.

“It’s great,” Mabry said. “It lets me be more involved in my team rather than having to worry about what I’m going to do for college. I can just focus on being a good example to these young guys, being a leader and trying to get my team to state.”

Mabry said now that he’s a senior, he’s tried to carve out a leadership role at Brentwood.

According to Mabry, his commitment to Notre Dame has brought a lot of younger offensive lineman to look up to him, which is a situation he’s tried to take advantage of.

“Me and another kid are kind of the leaders of the offensive line,” Mabry explained. “We’re both seniors and we have a lot of input on certain stuff and coaching the younger guys up. I feel like a lot of the younger guys look up to the seniors, so I’m trying to set a good example for them.”

To do that, Mabry said he’ll just focus on continuing to improve.

As with most high school players, Mabry said his main goal for the season is to win a state championship.

But the Tennessee talent also has a long list of things he wants to improve on personally.

“For me personally, It’s just about getting better movement wise and figuring out where I need to put my weight on certain plays and how I need to shift my weight and my feet going into blocks,” Mabry said. “It’s just kind of a lot of technical stuff that will help me play better in college.”

Mabry’s college choice is already made, but the future Irish offensive lineman said even though he’s not trying to grab the attention of coaching staff's anymore, he won’t be getting complacent.

“I want to play at the same high level I have been these last two years,” Mabry said. “Last year I guess I was trying to earn offers, but I still want to play hard and play to the best of my ability.”
