Notre Dame Offers 2018 PF Chris Doherty

Marlborough (Mass.) High 2018 power forward Chris Doherty made his way to Notre Dame this weekend for an official visit despite not holding an offer from the Irish.

That has changed.

Mike Brey and his staff have extended an offer to the three-star power forward following the visit per Doherty's AAU team's Twitter account. The 6-foot-7, 225-pounder also holds offers from Boston College, Rutgers, Towson and Vermont, among others.

Doherty is an AAU teammate of Notre Dame forward commit Nate Laszewski of Northfield (Mass.) Mt. Hermon.

Now that Doherty has an offer in-hand, Notre Dame will likely be the team to beat moving forward. He would the fifth commitment for the Irish, who hold pledges from four players inside the nation’s top 106, joining Laszewski (No. 70), Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga point guard Prentiss Hubb (No. 84), Mars (Pa.) High shooting guard Robby Carmody (No. 87) and Upper Arlington (Ohio) High shooting guard Dane Goodwin (No. 106).

Rivals national analyst Eric Bossi had this to say about Doherty after watching him in late July in Las Vegas.

“A rugged and tough guy, Doherty never backed down or gave an inch without fighting and as far as I'm concerned there isn't any team that couldn't use a guy like Doherty,” Bossi stated.

Notre Dame’s 2018 class currently ranks No. 11 in the country and third in the ACC behind North Carolina (3rd) and Duke (6th).
