It’s been an incredible week for the Irish coaching staff on the recruiting trail with three commitments total on Monday and Tuesday and another is likely tomorrow.

While the excitement in recruiting is with the additions to the class, Notre Dame has to continue finding potential targets across the country and expand the board. The staff did just that Thursday evening when it extended an offer to San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) Jserra Catholic product Abdul-Malik McClain.

The three-star defensive end also holds offers from UCLA, Washington and Virginia. He recently transferred to Jserra Catholic from Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita.

According to MaxPreps, the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder recorded 51 tackles and 7.5 sacks during his junior campaign. McClain’s Hudl page lists a 4.5 40-yard dash, 4.21 shuttle and a 500-pound squat.

McClain told Blue & Gold recently he had been hearing from the Notre Dame coaches.

McClain is the second prospect out West to receive an offer from Notre Dame following Monday’s offer to St. George (Utah) Desert Hills Rivals100 offensive tackle Penei Sewell.

More offers are expected to continue to roll out in the coming weeks.
