The long wait is over and Notre Dame is not headed to the NCAA Tournament after not receiving one of the last at-large bids from the selection committee.

Notre Dame and the Irish faithful sweated it out for about 72 hours, and Mike Brey’s program were not given the benefit of the doubt with the injuries to Bonzie Colson and Matt Farrell which impacted the team’s overall resume.

The Irish had an overall RPI of 67 and a combined 7-11 record against quadrant one and quadrant two wins.

Notre Dame held a marquee non-conference win over then-No. 6 Wichita State, but a 2-9 record against quadrant one teams and a seven-game losing streak doomed the Irish in the end.

Bubble teams such as Arizona State, Syracuse, Oklahoma and Texas received one of the coveted remaining at-large bids.

Arizona State finished 8-10 in quadrant one and two games with an RPI of 64. Oklahoma was 9-12 in quadrant one and two games and RPI of 48 while the Longhorns were 8-14 in quadrant one and two games and held an overall RPI of 50.

Syracuse is likely the most surprising of that group based on Bracketology talk leading into the tournament. The Orange were 7-11 in quadrant one and two games with an RPI of 44. This one likely stings for Irish fans given Notre Dame won the regular season matchup on the road without Colson and Farrell.

NCAA Selection Committee Bruce Rasmussen stated following the release of the bracket that Davidson's win over Rhode Island in the A-10 Tournament title knocked the Irish out of the NCAA Tournament.

Notre Dame will now head to the NIT likely getting a No. 1 seed and host home games in South Bend.
