Notre Dame has announced a third preseason game to its schedule with donations going to hurricane relief for those impacted by recent hurricanes in Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands and other areas damaged by recent storms.

On Friday (Oct. 20), the Irish will play against local Holly Cross College at 7 p.m. with proceeds going to the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) to help repair a catholic elementary school in Texas damaged by Hurricane Harvey.

The game stemmed from an idea by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) to help with the relief efforts in the impacted areas.

Per the release from the Notre Dame athletic website, it will be a non-ticketed event and additional details in regards to how to donate will be released later this week.

“As soon as the NABC discussed this opportunity, I knew it was something that we needed to do,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said per the release. "The recent weather events across the country have put a lot of people in need and our ability to lend aid with an extra exhibition game is a win-win for everyone involved.

"Our players will get an opportunity to compete against a different team as we get ready for the challenging season ahead. Holy Cross College will get to experience a game in Purcell Pavilion. Our fans who will be in town for a big athletics weekend will get a chance to see us compete.

“Most importantly, we will be able to help our ACE program and one of its parishes recover from [Hurricane] Harvey.”

Holy Cross finished its 2016-2017 season with a record of 14-17. Notre Dame will also have exhibitions against Bethel College (Nov. 3) and Cardinal Stitch (Nov. 7) as it prepares for the 2017-2018 campaign.
