It was a big weekend for Notre Dame not only on the field, but off the field as well when it comes to recruiting.

The Irish staff hosted a ton of prospects for their program’s win over Florida State including one of the top wide receivers in the Midwest for the 2020 class: Louisville (Ky.) Male product Izayah Cummings.

“It was a very humbling experience because all my life I’ve known Notre Dame as a top notch program,” Cummings told Blue & Gold Illustrated. “I was able to meet with the wide receivers coach and get to know more about the program.”

Getting the opportunity to spend time with Del Alexander was the highlight of the visit for the junior.

“He really made me think about how I still have things I can do to improve my game and be more elite,” Cummings began. “Coach Alexander’s message was that he knows all of the schools that have offered to me, but he isn’t one of them to just give them out. You have to show him why you deserve to be offered by Notre Dame.

“He keeps it 100 and as a coach I see him wanting the best out of his players.”

Notre Dame picked up a blowout victory over Florida State on Saturday night, and Cummings enjoyed the experience even with the winter conditions.

“The atmosphere was full of energy throughout the game and the fans were always lit,” Cummings stated. “The wide receivers showed out and made some big plays … The one thing that really stood out to me is that I saw the quarterback trust in his wide receivers to make plays. That’s what I was looking forward to seeing when I came down there.”

Cummings left South Bend without picking up an offer from the Irish, but Notre Dame certainly caught his attention.

“The visit most definitely increased my interest,” Cummings explained. “I really like what they are doing and I feel like me and Coach Alexander will have a great relationship while I’m still early in the recruiting process … If Notre Dame was to offer it would be very humbling because they are easily one of the most prestigious programs in the country.”

Cincinnati, Duke, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Missouri, Purdue and others have offered the junior, who plans to check out Michigan next weekend when the Wolverines host the Hoosiers. He has also made trips to Kentucky, Purdue and Indiana this fall.
