The Irish faithful got some much needed good news this evening when Notre Dame landed its 18th commitment in the 2017 class. La Mirada (Calif.) High four-star athlete Elijah Hicks made his pledge to the Irish after taking an official visit over the weekend.

Landing Hicks adds another talented defensive back to the class and one with a little versatility. The 6-foot, 185-pound Hicks has told Blue & Gold previously Todd Lyght and the staff believed he could play cornerback, nickel and possibly even a little safety.

Notre Dame also holds commitments from Mansfield (Texas) High three-star defensive back Paulson Adebo and four-star Naperville (Ill.) Neuqua Valley athlete Isaiah Robertson, who is being recruited as a safety.

Notre Dame needed to add at one more defensive back to its two-man class, and Hicks gives the Irish that player.

Prior to his visit, Hicks wouldn’t commit to a timeframe to make his decision, and it appeared he wanted to take most, if not all of his five official visits. He did say comfort level was a major factor in his decision and Hicks felt comfortable enough during his visit to Notre Dame to pull the trigger.

The Irish received the second official visit from Hicks with Northwestern getting the first.

Hicks is ranked as the No. 27 athlete in the country, but Notre Dame is recruiting him as a defensive back. Hicks' commitment gives the Irish 10 four-star commitments. He is the second La Mirada standout to pick Notre Dame, joining tight end Tyler Luatua, who signed with Notre Dame in 2014.
