The verbal commitment earlier this week from Lake Forest, lll., Rivals250 defensive end and four-start prospect Rylie Mills continues Notre Dame’s long-standing tradition in the state.

None of the 50 states has produced more players to suit up for the Fighting Irish in football than Illinois, and last year it tied Florida for the most representation on the team with 10, led by wide receiver Miles Boykin and consensus All-American cornerback Julian Love, who were selected in the third and fourth rounds, respectively, in last month’s NFL Draft.

Along the defensive line, Illinois has been well represented at Notre Dame with standouts. Here’s our top dozen since World War II, with Mills the next trying to break into the list:
