Notre Dame & College Football's New Redshirting Rule

Chances are the 2018 Notre Dame team will set a school record for the most freshmen ever played in a season.
It’s not because the program is starting all over from scratch and building for the future. Nor is it because the 27-man class signed is expected to be the greatest in school history.
This June 13, the NCAA announced that Division I football players are now permitted to play up to four games in a season — whether it is the first four games or last four games (including a bowl) or anything in between — while keeping a redshirt year and not losing a year of eligibility.
