This is Part II of our excerpts in Blue & Gold Illustrated’s one-on-one interview with Brian Kelly for the 2018 Football Preview.

Chances are the 2018 Notre Dame team will set a school record for the most freshmen ever played in a season.

It’s not because the program is starting all over from scratch and building for the future. Nor is it because the 27-man class signed is expected to be the greatest in school history.

This June 13, the NCAA announced that Division I football players are now permitted to play up to four games in a season — whether it is the first four games or last four games (including a bowl) or anything in between — while keeping a redshirt year and not losing a year of eligibility.
