Notre Dame is high on the list of one of the class of 2019’s top inside linebackers.

Shammond Cooper, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect from St. Louis Trinity Catholic said he doesn’t have a definite list, but if he did, Notre Dame would be near the top.

“It’s one of my top schools right now,” Cooper said. “I really haven’t thought about a list of my top schools, but they are up there.”

Along with Notre Dame, Cooper also currently holds offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, LSU, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oklahoma and several others.

Cooper said having this many options this early in his process is a big deal.

“My recruiting is going great,” Cooper said. “It's a blessing just to have so many choices.”

The St. Louis talent has his eye on the Irish early, and said the culture surrounding Notre Dame makes it an intriguing program.

“The tradition of their program is just historic with the academics and the winning,” Cooper told BGI. “It’s also like a family there. It’s something I can see myself being a part of.”

Cooper, along with a few of his teammates from Trinity Catholic, got his first look at Notre Dame during a visit on March 26, and left campus impressed with what he’d seen and heard from the Irish coaching staff.

“The campus is amazing,” Cooper said. “I got to talk to coach Kelly. He seems like a high-tempo type of coach, and that’s something I like.”

There’s interest on both sides, but there’s obviously a long way to go in Cooper’s recruitment.

More big offers are sure to come as his career continues, but Cooper said he already knows exactly what he’s looking for in a school and a football program.

“Somewhere where It’ll be a family,” Cooper explained. “Somewhere I can get a good education, and somewhere that I can win.”
