Notre Dame hosted an impressive list of underclassmen over the weekend for the Navy game, including St. Louis Lutheran North 2019 wide receiver Maurice Massey.

Massey, a three-star prospect, got his first look at Notre Dame and came away impressed with what he saw.

“To sum it all up, I loved the place,” he said. “I can really see me playing there and it being a good fit. I really like what I’ve seen.”

What stuck out most about the visit, Massey said, was the fact that the Irish fans showed up and stayed for the whole game despite the horrible weather.

“When I got there, it was raining, wet and cold,” he said. “So I thought, ‘OK, so there won’t be a decent turnout.’ When I got to the stadium, it was still sold out, even during that weather.”

Massey said the fact that Notre Dame fans showed up in the freezing rain is a testament to how passionate the school is about its football.

“That shows that they’re serious about football,” he said. “They care about their team and it’s a good environment. It was cold and rainy, but everyone was still there. That means something.”

The game itself, he said, was everything he expected and more.

“It was great,” Massey told Blue & Gold Illustrated. “It was definitely what I wanted it to be.”

Aside from the game, Massey also got to spend some time with wide receivers coach DelVaughn Alexander and the two seemed to hit it off instantly.

“He’s a good guy,” Massey said. “He’s a man of his word, truthful and honest.”

As it stands, Massey holds offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kentucky, Boston College and a few others. Now that he’s seen everything Notre Dame has to offer, he’s hopeful the Irish will join that list soon.

“That would big,” Massey said. “I’m not going to speak about committing right now, but that would definitely be my top school.”
