Chesterfield (Va.) L.C. Bird's Jalen Elliott might be a state title winning quarterback, but to Notre Dame, he's one of the nation's top defensive backs, although it looks like it's still up in the air whether thats at safety or cornerback.

Elliott was in South Bend this past weekend for his official visit, and he said that defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder and defensive backs coach Todd Lyght were arguing a little about where he'll play at the next level.
"There was kind of a little fight between Coach Lyght and Coach VanGorder," Elliott said with a laugh on Monday.
"Coach Lyght wants me to play corner, and Coach VanGorder wants me to play safety ... But I have to learn all three positions, because Coach VanGorder says the different roles and will help me as a safety."
"But it doesn't matter to me, really," he quickly added.
Elliott, who committed to Notre Dame before the Irish Invasion back in June, was originally evaluated by VanGorder back during the spring evaluation period. At the time he was a relative unknown in the Mid-Atlantic prep scene, but that quickly changed once the Irish got involved with his recruitment. Elliott said that interest picked up from Virginia Tech and others, but it was a unique pitch that made the difference for him.
Lyght explained to Elliott that he likes defensive backs that have had to line up under center and direct an offense in his high school, and he reiterated that once again on the visit.
"Both [Lyght] and Coach VanGorder said they like guys who have played quarterback, because they have been thrown into the fire and have to play under pressure. That's kind of a big deal for them," Elliott said.
While the Virginia native arrived on campus already solid on his pledge to the Irish, he said that it was still nice to be treated like a priority by the staff. He had a chance to sit down with head coach Brian Kelly on Sunday and also chat with a number of other staff members throughout the weekend.
"It was good, just nice and laid back," Elliott said.
But Elliott said the focus of the visit wasn't just on him.
He also put on his recruiting cap and worked two top targets for the Irish in Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic four-star cornerback Damar Hamlin and Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra four-star athlete Brandon Burton.
"There were a lot of guys there for their officials," Elliott said. "I obviously talked to Damar, because we were roommates, so I got to talk to him a lot. Brandon is a guy from the other side of the country, so it was really cool to talk with him."
When asked where he thinks Notre Dame stands with both players, Elliott hesitated before answering.
"I don't want to speak for them, but I had a really good talk with them, and I think they liked it — at least I hope so. I really think they were impressed with the school and I'm going to keep in contact with them just to see where this goes," he said.
Elliott has led L.C. Bird to a 7-0 start this season and has played both quarterback and cornerback. He said that Lyght is expected to be at his school on Thursday with the Irish on a bye.
"He just wants to keep building our relationship," Elliott said. "It's always cool to see that a coach is still recruiting you."
The 6-1, 177-pound Elliott is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 39 safety in the country and the No. 13 prospect in the state of Virginia.
