National Signing Day is less than a week away and several highly rated prospects will be making decisions on where they’ll be playing college football.

Such is not the case, however, for Notre Dame wide receiver signee Kevin Austin, the No. 88 overall player in the class of 2018.

Austin committed to Notre Dame back on August 11 and never wavered on that pledge, inking with the Irish during the early signing period in December.

Now, Austin is loving life as a second-semester high school senior and preparing for his arrival at Notre Dame this summer.

“It’s been great,” Austin said of his offseason. “I’ve gotten the Notre Dame package that I’ve been following every day”

Austin is also taking the opportunity to participate in a second sport one more time, which he hopes will help prepare him for college even more.

“I’m running track also to help with my speed,” Austin explained. “My goal is to come in and make an impact once I get there and I want to be adjusted to the speed of the game, so track is going to help me a lot with that.”

While his future is decided, Austin said a lot his friends are still weighing their options. The Notre Dame signee said he’s more than happy he doesn’t have a decision in front of him.

“I’m really excited and relived to know which school I’m going to be attending for the next four years,” Austin said. “Instead of stressing out with signing day coming up around the corner.”

With an early commitment, Austin could have chosen to enroll early with seven of his fellow Irish signees, but decided he wanted to stick around Coconut Creek (Fla) North Broward Prep for one more semester.

“A lot of people asked why I didn’t enroll early to get a jump on playing early, but I wanted to enjoy my senior year,” Austin said. “Being able to enjoy my senior year and not worry about which school I’m going to has been a blessing.”

Austin has been in communication with the seven early enrollees though, and said what they’ve told him about their Notre Dame experience so far has him chomping at the bit to get to South Bend.

“We talk on a daily basis,” Austin said. “They always say how much they’re enjoying it and how they jumped right in. There was no delayed, step into it situation, and I like that. I can’t wait to make it up there.”
