Notre Dame will be waiting on Rivals100 safety Litchfield Ajavon when he finishes high school, but the Irish commit is in no rush.

Ajavon, the No. 85 overall player is of course excited for the next chapter in his football career, but he’s making the most of his remaining time in high school.

“Everything has been great,” Ajavon said of his season so far. “I’m trying to cherish the time I have left to play high school football. I’m loving every second of it and working hard to be the best I can be.”

Ajavon spent the summer honing his craft, both physically and mentally.

“I think the mental side of it has taken a big step,” Ajavon explained. “I find myself spending time in playbooks and watching a ton of film so I can know my opponent.”

The Notre Dame pledge said that the mental work he’s put in the past few months has already paid off in a big way just two games into the season.

“What I’m seeing in the film, I’m able to trust it when I’m on the field,” Ajavon said. “I’m reacting instead of thinking a lot, and I’ve been using what I learn and passing it down to my teammates.”

Of course, the physical attributes are there as well.

Ajavon is measuring at 6-foot, 185 pounds, and has developed a nose for the football.

“I’ve continued to get physical,” Ajavon explained. “I want to be the first one to the ball carrier every time and I always want to make an impact play.”

So far this season, he’s been able to do that thanks to the work he put in during the offseason.

“My physical play, I was working on my first step and my burst this entire summer,” Ajavon said. “Change of direction and cover skills have been pretty good as well.”

Alexandria (Va.) Episcopal is 2-0 so far on the year, and will look to move to 3-0 on the season tonight when they travel to Richmond (Va.) Collegiate (2-1)
