Kyren Williams plays multiple positions for St. Louis St. John Vianney, and said there are plenty of things he’s working on heading into his senior year.

The main thing though, Williams said, is his speed.

“This offseason is basically about working on my speed,” Williams told Blue & Gold Illustrated. “I’m working a lot on my speed. I have natural muscle so I’m doing some muscle but not a lot.”

To work on that specifically, Williams said he’s focusing on running back this offseason, which is the position Notre Dame prefers for him.

“I’m continuing to play seven-on-seven so I can stay in the groove of football,” Williams explained. “I’m playing as a scat running back.”

On the field, Williams said he wants to improve everything he possibly can.

“I want to get better on everything I didn’t do last year,” Williams said. “I want to become a better player, a better leader and really just a better everything.”

The leadership aspect, Williams said, is huge.

To improve on it, Williams said he’s constantly encouraging his teammates to join him for training sessions.

“It’s about getting my teammates to come workout with me when I work out and pushing them to go harder and go past their limits,” Williams said. “I’m working religiously and keeping the bigger picture of my dream in front of me.”

Leadership, Williams said, is just as important as any physical attribute of his game. In Williams’ eyes, it’s up to him to help his teammates find success.

“I’m a leader and if I show any weakness, they’re going to show weakness,” Williams explained. “I’ve got to stay strong at all times and lead my teammates to become better players and better people.”
