Irish land Mattingly

Danny Mattingly arrived at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge last weekend wearing a Notre Dame hat. Odds are that won't be the only Irish gear purchased by the three-star athlete.
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound athlete from Spokane, Wash., who was recruited across the country as a linebacker and tight end, committed to Notre Dame on Tuesday during a campus visit. Mattingly called Notre Dame a potential future home before arriving in South Bend. Now it will be.

Mattingly becomes Notre Dame 15th commitment, second linebacker and second prospect who participated in last weekend's inaugural Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge. Mattingly didn't work out during the event after aggravating a knee sprain that he brought to Atlanta.
Calls and texts to Mattingly were not returned on Tuesday afternoon, but multiple sources confirmed the commitment with Irish Illustrated. On Mattingly's Facebook page he posted "Goin to notre dame! Couldn't be happier with the opportunities I've been blessed with! South bends gonna be my new home! Go irish!" Mattingly also posted a photo of him in a No. 4 Notre Dame uniform and helmet.
Mattingly also held offers from Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, UCLA, Washington and Washington State, where his brother played.
Mattingly's uncle is Los Angeles Dodgers manager and former New York Yankee Don Mattingly.
The three-star prospect comes from a Catholic family with Indiana roots, his father having played college football at Butler and his famous uncle a native of Evansville. Mattingly made the trip to Indiana following the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge on a summer vacation to see extended family.
"It's definitely huge," Mattingly last weekend while checking into the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge. "I've always dreamed about going there and seeing it. I come from a big Catholic family so it's something my family dreamed about, too."
The trip was Mattingly's first look at Notre Dame. It won't be his last.
