Irish In The Pros: NFL Week Five, NBA Preseason

Below you will find updates from week five of the NFL season, NBA preseason update and the final MLB update with no more Irish players represented in the playoffs.

NFL OFFENSE

• Tyler Eifert (2009-12), TE, Cincinnati Bengals: Missed his third-straight game while recovering from a back injury. Per ESPN, he is expected to “miss multiple weeks.”

• Anthony Fasano (2002-05), TE, Miami Dolphins: Did not catch a pass in Miami’s 16-10 win over the Tennessee Titans.

• Michael Floyd (2008-11), WR, Minnesota Vikings: Returned to action after serving a four-game suspension. Caught one pass for 19 yards in Minnesota’s 20-17 win over the Chicago Bears.

• Will Fuller (2013-15), WR, Houston Texans: Recorded another two-touchdown performance in a 42-34 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Caught two passes for 57 yards (both for touchdowns) and rushed for five yards on one attempt.

• J.J. Jansen (2004-07), LS, Carolina Panthers: Will once again handle all the team’s long snapping duties in 2017.

• TJ Jones (2010-13), WR, Detroit Lions: Caught two passes for 12 yards in a 27-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

• DeShone Kizer (2014-16), QB, Cleveland Browns: Was benched in a 17-14 loss to the New York Jets after completing 8 of 17 passes for 87 yards and an interception. Also rushed for 29 yards on six carries.

• Ben Koyack (2011-14), TE, Jacksonville Jaguars: Did not record a catch in Jacksonville’s 30-9 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

• Nick Martin (2011-15), OL, Houston Texans: Played every offensive snap for the Texans in a 42-34 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

• Zack Martin (2009-13), OL, Dallas Cowboys: Played every offensive snap for the Cowboys in their 35-31 to the Green Bay Packers.

• Troy Niklas (2011-13), TE, Arizona Cardinals: Did not record a catch in a 34-7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

• C.J. Prosise (2012-15), RB, Seattle Seahawks: Did not play in Seattle’s 46-18 win over the Indianapolis Colts while recovering from an ankle injury.

• Theo Riddick (2009-12), RB, Detroit Lions: Carried the ball two times for eight yards and caught four passes for 45 yards in a 27-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

• Kyle Rudolph (2008-10), TE, Minnesota Vikings: Caught six passes for 45 yards and a touchdown in a 20-17 win over the Chicago Bears.

• Ronnie Stanley (2012-15), OT, Baltimore Ravens: Started at left tackle in Baltimore’s 30-17 win over the Oakland Raiders.

• John Sullivan (2003-07), C, Los Angeles Rams: Started at center for the Rams in a 16-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

• Golden Tate (2007-09), WR, Detroit Lions: Caught five passes for 48 yards in a 27-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

• Sam Young (2006-09), OT, Miami Dolphins: Did not play in Miami’s 16-10 win over the Tennessee Titans.

NFL DEFENSE

• Sheldon Day (2012-15), DL, Jacksonville Jaguars: Did not record a tackle in a 30-9 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

• Matthias Farley (2011-15), DB, Indianapolis Colts: Registered six total tackles and a pass defended in a 26-23 win over the San Francisco 49ers.

• Cole Luke (2013-16), CB, Carolina Panthers: Placed on injury reserve with an ankle injury to make room for an offensive line signing.

• Romeo Okwara (2012-15), DE, New York Giants: Recorded a tackle in a 27-22 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

• James Onwualu (2013-16), LB, Los Angeles Chargers: Did not record a tackle in a 27-22 win over the New York Giants.

• Isaac Rochell (2013-16), DT, Los Angeles Chargers: Rochell was waived last week by the Chargers to make room on the 53-man roster. He has signed with the team's practice squad.

• KeiVarae Russell (2012-15), CB, Cincinnati Bengals: Did not record a tackle in Cincinnati’s 20-16 win over the Buffalo Bills.

• Harrison Smith (2007-11), S, Minnesota Vikings: Registered three total tackles, two passes defended and the game-clinching interception in a 20-17 win over the Chicago Bears.

• Jaylon Smith (2013-15), LB, Dallas Cowboys: Tied for the team-high in tackles with seven in a 35-31 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

• Manti Te’o (2009-12), LB, New Orleans Saints: Had a bye week.

• Stephon Tuitt (2011-13), DE, Pittsburgh Steelers: Notched two tackles in Jacksonville’s 30-9 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

• Ishaq Williams (2011-14), DE, New York Giants: On season-ending injured reserve.

NBA PRESEASON UPDATES

• Pat Connaughton (2011-2015), G, Portland Trailblazers: Connaughton is averaging 6.3 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 15.7 minutes of action.

• Jack Cooley (2009-2013), C, Sacramento Kings: Averaging 1.0 point and 0.7 rebounds in 5.3 minutes of action per game during the preseason.

• Jerian Grant (2011-2015), G, Chicago Bulls: Averaging 7.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 20 minutes per game so far this preseason.

• Demetrius Jackson (2013-2016), G, Houston Rockets: Averaging 1.5 points, 1.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in seven minutes per game this preseason.

Note: Former forward VJ Beachem was waived by the Los Angeles Lakers this week. He is a likely candidate for the team's G-League affiliate.

MLB UPDATES

• A.J. Pollock (2007-10), OF, Arizona Diamondbacks: Played in all four postseason games for the Diamondbacks … Hit .214 with one home run and three RBIs.
