Notre Dame's 2019 offensive line class started off with a bang on April 20 landing a commitment from Metuchen (N.J.) St. Joseph's Rivals100 talent John Olmstead.
The 6-foot-6, 285-pounder had the Irish in his top five along with Michigan, Minnesota, Ole Miss and Rutgers.
Arizona State, Arkansas, Boston College, Duke, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Louisville, Maryland, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin, were among the other programs to have offered Olmstead during the process.
Notre Dame first entered the picture for the nation's No. 66 player offering during a camp in the summer of 2017. The Irish became a strong contender at that point and continued to be among his favorites throughout the finish even with Harry Hiestand, who originally offered, leaving for the Bears earlier this year.
Olmstead followed that visit with trips for the Navy game this past November and an unofficial in April, which helped seal the deal for the Irish.
Olmstead became the first Rivals100 prospect to join the Irish class and remains 100 percent solid in his commitment to Jeff Quinn and company.
