Sachse (Texas) High four-star defensive tackle Hunter Spears committed to Notre Dame on Feb. 20, becoming the fourth member of Notre Dame's 2019 recruiting class.

Spears picked Notre Dame over an unofficial top group of Texas Tech, TCU, Alabama and Oklahoma. He also received offers from Oklahoma State, Baylor, California, Virginia and Michigan State, among many others.

Spears has talked often throughout his recruitment about his great relationship with defensive line coach Mike Elston, which obviously ended up paying dividends for the Irish.

The Texas talent visited Notre Dame on Oct. 21 for the USC game, then returned for a Junior Day on Jan. 27. Spears took his official visit to South Bend over the weekend of April 13.
