In-state 2019 DE George Karlaftis Lands Notre Dame Offer

Notre Dame has extended an offer to West Lafayette (Ind.) sophomore defensive end George Karlaftis while on his visit to South Bend.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder also holds offers from Indiana, Purdue and SMU. He has been communicating with defensive line coach Mike Elston in recent weeks.

The Irish figure to be the early team to beat for Karlaftis, who was born in Greece and moved to the U.S. a few years ago.

His father played for Miami (Fla.), so there is a connection with the Hurricanes and an offer could push Mark Richt's program over the top in the long run.

Notre Dame is an intriguing program for Karlaftis because he likes the high-level academic and athletic combination the program can offer him. He told Blue & Gold an offer from the Irish would be a "huge deal" for his recruitment. He took a visit this past October for the Stanford game.

Karlaftis recorded 113 tackles and 13 sacks as a sophomore. Stay tuned to Blue & Gold for additional updates on the offer and his time in South Bend.
