In-State 2018 Defensive Back D.J. Johnson Making Second Trip To South Bend

Like most Notre Dame home games, several in-state student-athletes will be in attendance this weekend for the Stanford game.

Indianapolis North Central 2018 defensive back D.J. Johnson will be making his second visit to South Bend this fall. The 6-2, 165-pound Johnson made his way to the home opener against Nevada.

“I hope to get a chance to talk to my position coach and maybe a few of the players, so I can get a chance to found out more about Notre Dame football from a player perspective,” Johnson said. “My expectations are to tour the facilities, get a feel for the environment and get a chance to talk to the coaching staff.”

Johnson is hoping to achieve one goal during the visit: earning a scholarship from Notre Dame.

“An offer from Notre Dame would mean the world to me as it is a dream school of mine,” Johnson said. “It seems they are high on me. I've received a lot of mail from them weekly and even hand written letters before.

“They usually send me mail about ‘four for 40,’ the school and football program and why they are a great option.”

Johnson holds Notre Dame in regard especially following his visit in September.

“What stands out to me most about their program is their football atmosphere around South Bend,” Johnson said. “Also, that it felt like home when I was there.”

Notre Dame’s record in any season won’t affect Johnson’s thoughts on the Irish program.

“I love Notre Dame football and no matter how their doing right now I’m still a big fan,” Johnson said. “I’m interested to see how they can turn their season around. How you face adversity says a lot about a team.”

Bowling Green was the first school to extend an offer to Johnson.
