For the second time this season, a Notre Dame player has claimed an ACC Player of the Week honor.

Sophomore guard T.J. Gibbs averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists last week in wins over North Carolina State and Syracuse, which led him to being named the league’s top player for the week.

With senior forward Bonzie Colson out with a foot injury and senior point guard Matt Farrell suffering an ankle injury in the first half versus the Wolfpack, Notre Dame needed a player to step up and take the reigns with the senior stars out.

Enter Gibbs.

Against the Wolfpack, he scored a game-high 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists to help the Irish to an 88-58 win.

The sophomore followed up his strong performance with another this past Saturday at Syracuse. Gibbs led Notre Dame with 18 points, while also contributing four rebounds and four assists in the 51-49 Irish win.

Gibbs joins Colson as Notre Dame players to win the award during the 2017-18 season.

It has been a breakout season for Gibbs, who averaged 4.7 points per contest last season. Through 16 games, he has increased that total to 14.8 points per outing. He is also putting up 2.9 assists and 2.8 rebounds per contest.

Gibbs will continue to be counted on as the top scoring option while Farrell is sidelined. The senior will miss Wednesday’s road matchup against Georgia Tech.
