Gibbons Commits To Notre Dame

St. Petersburg (Fla.) Northside Christian School offensive tackle Dillan Gibbons has committed to Notre Dame.
Gibbons, who was named a sophomore All-American by MaxPreps, took an unofficial visit to Notre Dame earlier this week. He was offered a scholarship by the Irish on Wednesday, and became the first commit in the class of 2017 for Notre Dame when he called up head coach Brian Kelly on Saturday.

"I actually went to the Syracuse game back in 2008 and I always thought that I wanted to play there," Gibbons told Blue & Gold Illustrated. "The conversation with Coach Kelly was amazing. He said I made his day, which is kind of crazy for a guy that's his stature."
The 6-5, 305-pound lineman also held scholarship offers from Ohio State, Michigan State, Louisville, Mississippi State, South Carolina, West Virginia, Cincinnati and South Florida.
His brother — Reilly — was a Notre Dame target back in 2012, but eventually signed with Stanford before transferring to USF.
Gibbons plays for former NFL fullback Mike Alstott at Northside Christian. He starts at tackle, but could also play on the inside as a guard. Notre Dame assistant coach Autry Denson recruits the area, but it's offensive line coach Harry Hiestand that will get credit for the recruitment.
