Notre Dame offered three-star Cartersville (Ga.) High tight end Jackson Lowe this week, and the Georgia talent said even though he never saw the offer coming, it was a great one to get.

“I never thought they were going to offer me, it was pretty cool though,” Lowe said. “They’re a winning team and they use their tight ends a lot.”

For Lowe, his thoughts on Notre Dame are simple; It’s a powerhouse football program at a powerhouse university.

“I know it’s got a good football tradition and their academics are great,” Lowe said. “It’s just good academics and good football.”

The offer for Lowe came from offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Chip Long, who told Lowe there is no shortage of passes to tight ends in his offense.

“He’s a great dude,” Lowe said of Long. “He’s a tight ends coach and the offensive coordinator, so they’ll throw to the tight ends a lot.”

The fact that Long doubles as offensive coordinator and tight ends coach is appealing to Lowe.

“I want to go somewhere they’re going to throw the ball to the tight ends,” Lowe said. “Notre Dame does that, so that’s good.”

After the offer and learning more about Long’s offense, Lowe said he’s looking forward to building a relationship with the Notre Dame staff and making a trip to South Bend.

“I’m very interested them,” Lowe said. “I plan on visiting them soon.”

As of now, Lowe said most of the schools sticking out to him are in the South.

“Clemson and Auburn are really sticking out,” Lowe said. “Miami as well, and Alabama.”

However, there’s a long way to go before Lowe makes a decision, so Notre Dame should have plenty of time to get in the picture.

It may also help that the Irish appear to have most of the things Lowe said he’s looking for in a school.

“Definitely academics and a good relationship with the coach,” Lowe said. “Somewhere that feels like home.”
