Four-Star Guard Blake Wesley Has Notre Dame Official Visit Date In Mind

Notre Dame basketball’s top recruiting target has a date targeted for an official visit.

Blake Wesley, a four-star guard from South Bend’s Riley High School, is planning an official visit to his hometown school the weekend of Nov. 7, he told a group of reporters including Purdue Rivals site GoldandBlack.com after his first AAU tournament of the season.

“When Notre Dame plays Clemson for football, that’s my official for Notre Dame, hopefully,” Wesley said.

Wesley, the No. 97 overall player in the Rivals150, is Notre Dame’s top target in the 2021 class. An official to Notre Dame would be his second. College basketball recruits are allowed to take five official visits during their junior year and up to five more as a senior.

Purdue and Indiana are two of the Irish’s top competitors to land Wesley, who said more recent offers Louisville and Maryland have been active in recent weeks. Michigan and Auburn have reached out and expressed some interest in him as well.

The 6-5, 180-pound Wesley’s recruitment is still a bit away from the finish line. He said he wants to take more official visits before making a decision, with Louisville, Texas and Maryland as possible destinations. Wesley visited Louisville on an unofficial in late February. He took an official visit to Purdue last fall. He has visited Indiana as well.

“Probably end of July I’d cut my list and then commit during the school year,” Wesley said.

The NCAA recruiting dead period runs through July 31 and is subject to further extension.

Wesley is playing AAU ball for the Nike-sponsored Indy Heat Gym Rats. His team played its first even of the year in Fort Wayne last weekend, the Indy Heat Gym Rats Tune-Up. The time off was still productive for him.

“Just really getting stronger, Wesley said. “I’ve already gained some pounds during quarantine.”

Notre Dame has one commitment in the 2021 class, South Bend St. Joseph three-star wing JR Konieczny. The Irish have three more spots available for 2021-22, as it stands now.
