CB Kalon Gervin Backs Off Pledge To Notre Dame

Notre Dame's 2018 recruiting class suffered a big loss with the decommitment of Detroit Cass Tech four-star cornerback Kalon Gervin, who announced his decision on twitter.

Gervin committed to Notre Dame on Feb. 13, just days after visiting the campus for Junior Day. Landing Gervin gave the Irish a much-needed pickup at cornerback, with the program coming off a recruiting class in which it failed to land a single corner.

Gervin, the No. 100 player in the country, combined with Marietta (Ga.) Lassiter standout safety Derrik Allen to give the Irish a strong start to the secondary class. In fact, both players committed on the same day.

In April, Gervin landed an opening to the Nike Football The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore. after a strong showing at the Chicago Regional. During that event, Gervin donned Notre Dame gear, but obviously he has since backed off his strong vibe for the Irish program.

With Gervin now out of the class, Notre Dame must land at least two more cornerbacks in the class.

Notre Dame continues to fight hard for Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy cornerback Houston Griffith, a four-star athlete that ranks as the No. 42 player in the nation. The Irish also recently offered Indianapolis North Central cornerback D.J. Johnson, and the board will now likely expand with the decommitment of Gervin.
