A visit to Notre Dame was everything Cagan Campbell was hoping for, and more.

Campbell, a two-star cornerback from Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Hillcrest, said his first ever trip to South Bend couldn’t have gone any better.

“I enjoyed it a lot,” Campbell said. “Me and my dad both had a really great time. The game was fun, the coaches were cool, and they treated us great. It was a just a good overall experience for my first time in South Bend.”

The visit happened after a few weeks of Campbell communicating with defensive backs coach Todd Lyght, who invited Campbell up for the Blue-Gold Game.

During the visit, Campbell and his father had a meeting with Lyght, which Campbell said was one of the highlights of the trip.

“We got to sit down and talk,” Campbell said. “That went really good as well.”

According to Campbell, Lyght told him the Irish coaching staff will be keeping an eye on him going forward.

“He told me he would come down during the spring to watch me practice and evaluate me more,” Campbell said. “He also talked to us a lot about his experience. He has such a large background when It comes to football. I thought that was really interesting, and I would love to be able to play for him one day.”

Another factor that led Campbell to come away impressed were the personalities of the people he encountered while on campus.

Campbell said he felt accepted at Notre Dame, and that was a huge positive for him.

“It’s a very welcoming environment,” Campbell said. “Everybody was so friendly and easy to talk to. I’m a very sociable person, so being at a place where It’s easy to make friends would be very good for me. That’s the first thing I noticed when I arrived.”

For now, Campbell is a name to keep an eye on as he remains on the Irish’s radar.

Should Notre Dame pull the trigger on an offer, things could move quickly between the two parties.

“The next step would be to see if I’ll get an offer,” Campbell said. “If that we’re to happen, then I would start deciding on when I would come back to camp and maybe come for a game or two next season.”
