Inside Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman's office last Friday, Davion Dixon felt like it was time after hearing Freeman's message.

“He just talked about the future, nothing about football,” Dixon told Inside ND Sports. “That’s when it hit me. He really cares about your academics and hopes you succeed in the future. I can do good here with football and academics ... I thought about it the whole day and that's where I wanted to go."

Dixon, a four-star defensive tackle in the 2025 recruiting class, remembers the scene moments after committing.

"It was amazing," Dixon said. "It was something to remember. I was excited, we were hugging. My mom was crying so it was joyful."

Dixon remained on campus through the weekend and watched the Blue-Gold Game. Even though it was in April, Dixon said the environment gave him a sense of what its like at Notre Dame in the fall.

"The academics and the culture are pretty amazing there," Dixon said. "I know I didn't get to see like a real game, but when I was there it felt like a real game because the fans are amazing."

Defensive line coach Al Washington, Dixon's primary recruiter, led the Gold team to a 24-0 win against the Blue. Dixon said he's eager to learn and get taught by Washington.

"He's an amazing coach," Dixon said. "He gets out there with the players too. He's not like a sit-around coach, he gets physical with the players too, that's what I like most about him. My parents chose coach Freeman and coach Washington to build me into a man and I'm excited to be a part of the Brotherhood."

Dixon said he takes pride in his work ethic and putting in extra hours of training when his peers may not.

"Putting my weekends up just to grind," Dixon said. "I'm staying in the weight room all the time. I see other people going to parties and all that while I'm working. It hits me sometimes like, 'I'm trying to be somebody compared to other people.'"

At 6-foot-2, 300-pounds, Dixon is ranked by Rivals as the No. 10 defensive tackle in the 2025 class.

He attends Miami (Fla.) Belen Jesuit Prep and totaled 70 tackles and 10.5 sacks as a sophomore.

Dixon reports 18 offers and chose Notre Dame over schools including Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Michigan State and Penn State.
