When Notre Dame wide receiver/running back Jafar Armstrong hits the practice field Saturday, his cousin will be on the sidelines.

Daniel Jackson, a 2020 wide receiver from Shawnee Mission (Kan.) Bishop Miege, will take an unofficial visit to South Bend on Saturday to get a closer look at Notre Dame and spend time with his Irish cousin.

Jackson, a 6-foot-0, 180-pound product, has visited Notre Dame once before and is looking forward to returning.

“I’m very excited,” Jackson told Blue & Gold Illustrated. I’ve been up there once already, so I’m really looking to see what else they have to offer. I know the campus is beautiful, so I’m really looking forward to that.”

During his first trip to South Bend, Jackson toured campus and was taken aback by the architecture at Notre Dame and the history surrounding the school and football program.

“I really liked how all the buildings are made out of the same brick,” Jackson explained. That was really fancy. Also, their football facilities and campus in general was really nice.”

After visiting one time, Jackson said he felt like Notre Dame is a place he could thrive and hopes that feeling is still there this weekend.

“They’re a great school and very prestigious,” Jackson said. “Everything there is peak. It’s a great schools and I could see myself wanting to go to Notre Dame, so I just want to get more familiar with it.”

While on campus over the summer, Jackson participated in one of the Irish’s skills camps and said he was impressed with the coaching style of receivers coach DelVaughn Alexander.

“I’ve got to know Coach Alexander a little bit,” Jackson said. “He taught me at the camp I went to and he coached me up.”

And since he’s got a cousin already on the team, Jackson has a rare inside look at what life is like as a student athlete at Notre Dame.

According to Jackson, Armstrong has had only good things to say about his time at Notre Dame so far.

“He’s told me it’s very competitive and he’s always fighting for his position,” Jackson said. “He said all the coaches are really cool and they push him to be better.”

Currently, Jackson holds offers from Missouri, Iowa State and Kansas, but is hoping Notre Dame enters the mix soon.

“It would mean a lot. I would consider it my top offer,” Jackson said. “They’ll definitely be in the decision my senior year.”
