2020 KY ATH Jaylyn Allen Blown Away By Recent Irish Visit

Paintsville (Ky.) High 2020 athlete Jaylyn Allen made his first trip up to Notre Dame last weekend for the Wake Forest game and couldn’t have been more impressed by the Irish.

“It was great,” Allen told Blue & Gold Illustrated. “I’m glad I got to experience and be part of such a rich culture of football and academics. They really overwhelmed me with their campus. It was absolutely breath taking.

“We were able to check out the whole facility and meet with the staff and get to experience the whole deal of Notre Dame football … their locker room was amazing. To see the new locker room and the signs you hit I felt just like a little kid growing up wanting to always hit them signs.”

Even though the matchup with the Demon Deacons wasn’t a top 25 contest or against a bitter rival, Allen enjoyed the intensity the Irish brought to the field.

“I thought the game was amazing,” Allen stated. “It was a great chance to get the full effect of the atmosphere of the crowd. I felt they came out against Wake Forest as they always do against teams [and] to never underestimate a team and to come out with the same intensity as their biggest rivals.”

Allen said he spent about 20 or 30 minutes with the Irish coaching staff during the trip and had a chance to talk with linebackers coach Clark Lea.

“I thought he was a really nice guy and believes in what people can do,” Allen said of Lea. “He was basically just saying to keep working and send my film.”

Despite it being just his first trip up to South Bend, Allen felt a sense of comfort at Notre Dame.

“Their care for the players not just academically but as a person outside of football and school as well,” Allen said of what stood out about Notre Dame the most. “This made me feel as if I could be and feel really comfortable around them and being able to be away would be much easier.

“[I’d rate the visit a] 10 because I just felt that they cared about their recruits and not just the game and gave us their attention just as they do their players.”

Allen said the visit certainly increased his interest in the Notre Dame program, but he’s going to let the recruiting process happen and see where it leads him. So far, Allen holds offers from a few FCS programs.

“I would describe myself as an explosive player,” Allen said of his game. “I feel like I bring a high energy to the field and to the fans.”
