Notre Dame hosted several prospects over the weekend including several of the top players in the 2019 and 2020 classes.

That list included one of the top Midwest athletes in the 2020 class: Gibraltar (Mich.) Carlson product Ian Stewart.

The sophomore enjoyed his time in South Bend expiring Notre Dame on and off the field.

“It was great,” Stewart said of the visit. “They have elite facilities, and I love the tradition there. [I] toured the facilities, went on the field, toured campus and then went back on the field for pre-game.

“[I’d rate the visit a] 10. Great atmosphere and everything there is so cool: the facilities, the culture [and] everything. They have so much to do.

“I knew a good amount about them before my visit because there have been some great players come out of ND and have more on the way.”

Stewart saw a balanced attack during Notre Dame’s 35-14 win over NC State after falling behind by a touchdown early. He sees a team that will be tough to handle as the season goes on.

“The atmosphere was crazy,” Stewart explained. “Their defense looks really good. Their offense has so many weapons. They’re going to be a tough team to beat going forward.

“Fans were great and very energetic. [I liked] the way they were just very into the game.”

Part of Stewart’s itinerary included quick conversations with the coaching staff to begin building a relationship.

“I talked to [director of recruiting Aaryn] Kearney a little. Just the basics. I'm just getting to know the program. Talked to [wide receivers coach Del] Alexander a little too. Just trying to get to know them better. [Coach Alexander] seems like a great guy and great coach.”

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder holds early offers from NC State, Toledo, Central Michigan and Akron, among others. If Notre Dame were to offer down the line, it would be one he would consider.

“It would mean a lot,” Stewart said of a possible Irish offer. “I would keep that one in mind because, just like I said, earlier the culture there is amazing. It would be cool to be a part of something like that.

“I feel like my recruitment is going pretty well. It's starting to pick up more and I’m just going to see where it takes me.”

Stewart has also made game visits to Michigan, Michigan State and Louisville this fall.
