The class of 2018 isn’t the only class sending a big group of talented recruits to South Bend this weekend for the Notre Dame vs. Georgia game.

There will also be a large crop of prospects from the 2019 class, including Houston (Texas) St. Thomas quarterback Peyton Matocha.

Matocha visited Notre Dame this summer for Irish Invasion and is excited to get a second look at campus this weekend.

“I’m pumped, most definitely,” Matocha said. “The Irish Invasion was really, really fun. I got to see everything, but I talked to (quarterbacks) Coach (Tom) Rees and he said you haven’t really seen anything until you come to a game.”

The Texas talent said he’s very much looking forward to taking in a Notre Dame game day.

“I’m really excited to see all that, especially against a team like Georgia,” Matocha said. “That’s going to be really fun to see.”

Of course, Notre Dame already has a quarterback committed in the class of 2019 in four-star Reno (Nev.) Damonte Ranch product Cade McNamara.

McNamara is solid on his pledge, and will also be in town this weekend. However, it appears Rees has been keeping tabs on Matocha.

“It’s kind of slowed down a little bit since school started,” Matocha said of his contact with Rees. “We usually talk once every two weeks or so just to keep in touch.”

According to Matocha, Rees’ message to him has been to just keep his head down and go about his business.

“He’s just told me to keep working,” Matocha said. “I’ve got a really big season coming up and I have to just keep working and keep pushing and work on being more of a leader.”

Matocha is hoping his second trip to South Bend will eventually land him an offer from the Irish.

“That would be absolutely amazing,” Matocha said. “Everything there is all excellence. That would mean a lot for me to have an offer from a school of that caliber.”
