The class of 2018 is quickly coming to a close, and with 21 players already signed, Notre Dame will soon begin to focus fully on the class of 2019.

Gardena (Calif.) Junipero Serra cornerback Max Williams is the No. 68 overall player in the class of 2019, and the turnaround season in South Bend in 2017 caught his eye.

“Notre Dame balled out this year,” Williams told Blue & Gold Illustrated. “Last season, they had a setback, but they had a great year this year.”

Williams, the No. 7 cornerback in the class of 2019, has been talking with the Notre Dame coaching staff regularly, particularly special teams coordinator Brian Polian.

“I’ve been communicating with Brian Polian a lot,” Williams said. “He wants to me to get back out there to Notre Dame.”

Polian, Williams said, has made a big impression on him and has sold Notre Dame well.

“He’s a great guy,” Williams said. “He came to my school, and we’ve chopped it up a little bit about Notre Dame, the school and the type of environment they have. He’s a good dude.”

During his freshman year, Williams took an early recruiting visit to Notre Dame, and said seeing South Bend again is a top priority for him.

“Most definitely I want to go back out there,” Williams said” “It’s just the tradition and what they’ve built up there. They’re always at the top of college football.”

Notre Dame got Williams on campus early as a recruit, and even though it was several years ago, the four-star remembers it like it was yesterday.

“It was one of my first visits, so it was amazing,” Williams said. “It’s just a beautiful campus and a great school.”

As the 2019 cycle approaches, Williams already holds offers from several major programs, including Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC and several others.

Choosing one school out of the several opportunities will certainly be challenging for Williams, but the young West Coast standout already knows some important factors that will play into his decision.

“I’m just looking for somewhere I can go in and play early and compete,” Williams said. “Also the academics and where I want to live for the next few years.”
