Houston St. Thomas 2019 quarterback Peyton Matocha got his second look at Notre Dame this weekend and couldn’t have been more impressed.

Matocha visited South Bend this summer and had a great time on that trip, but said experiencing a game day at Notre Dame was a whole different animal.

“It was really fun,” Matocha said of the visit. “I went up there for the Irish Invasion and that was fun, but Coach (Tom) Rees told me you haven’t really been there unless you come to a game.”

The Texas product said getting to see one of the biggest games of the season was a great experience.

“For them to play a team like Georgia and have a game like that, it was awesome to see,” Matocha said. “Plus getting to see the new locker room and everything was really awesome.”

For Matocha, the factor that stood out the most about the visit was the way Notre Dame fans supported the team the whole way through the game.

“It was pretty crazy,” Matocha said. “You hear the student section and everybody walking around campus before the game chanting Notre Dame and everything. That was a really cool thing to see.”

Before the visit, Matocha told Blue & Gold Illustrated that he’s been in contact with Rees a little bit since visiting this summer and said the two spoke briefly this weekend.

“We really just talked about the game,” Matocha said. “He really wanted me to go up there and see a game, and I was really happy I went. I had a really good time.”

Of course, the Irish already have a quarterback commit in the class of 2019, but Matocha said Rees told him the coaching staff would stay in touch.

“He said to send him my game tapes and everything.” Matocha said. “They’re going to continue to evaluate me, and down the road we’ll see what happens.”
