Columbia (Mo.) Rock Bridge 2019 running back Nathaniel Peat will make the trip from his Missouri home to South Bend this weekend to take in his first Notre Dame game when the Irish welcome the Virginia Tech Hokies.

“I'm just trying to have a good time and see a team that has been historically great go out and perform,” Peat said. “I'm excited to see the environment of a huge powerhouse school on a game day.

“I'm looking forward to really looking how they play and see what the atmosphere is like in the stadium.”

The 5-foot-8, 170-pound Peat is simply hoping to get a better feel for Notre Dame as a school and a football program. Notre Dame’s tradition on the field is a main attraction for most recruits and Peat is included in that category.

“Notre Dame is a great program that’s always been good,” Peat said. “[What interests me the most about them is] basically the history of the program and how they’ve had many winning seasons.”

An offer from Notre Dame would mean a great deal to Peat given his interest in the prestige of the Notre Dame program and brand.

Peat has already earned an offer even at his relatively young age in the recruiting process. In-state Missouri extended an offer back in the summer. Michigan State has also shown interest in the sophomore. Peat was invited to the 2017 National Combine at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He is hoping his “recruiting takes off from there.”

This weekend will be Peat’s first and likely only game visit this fall.

During his sophomore season, Peat had 119 carries for 637 yards and three touchdowns. He added 182 yards and a touchdown on 19 catches as a receiver.
