A little more than a week after Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly noted how mental fatigue had taken a toll on the 2017 Fighting Irish while sputtering to a 1-2 finish with road losses at Miami (41-8) and Stanford (38-20), he will discover the “road” won’t get any easier in 2018.

Syracuse.com has announced that the Nov. 17 Notre Dame-Syracuse game originally scheduled to be Senior Day at Notre Dame Stadium will instead be moved to New York’s Yankee Stadium as the Shamrock Series outing for the Fighting Irish.

Yankee Stadium also hosted the 2010 Shamrock Series in Kelly’s first season, a 27-3 victory against Army. The Irish played again in the venue in the 2013 Pinstripe Bowl, a 29-16 win versus Rutgers.

The Shamrock Series was a yearly event for the Irish from 2009-16 but had a hiatus this past season with the opening of the Campus Crossroads in Notre Dame Stadium.

Syracuse last visited Notre Dame Stadium Nov. 22, 2008, when the 2-8 Orange, which had just fired head coach Greg Robinson, stunned the Irish 24-23 to knock them out of a Gator Bowl bid with a 6-5 record.

The two most recent meetings between the schools in football were at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., in 2014 and 2016, with the Irish winning by 31-15 and 50-33 scores, respectively.

The Orange stunned current No. 1 Clemson this season on Oct. 13, 27-24, to improve to 4-3, but failed to win thereafter while finishing 4-8.

Because of the switch, Notre Dame will play four of its last five games on the road, traveling to big-city venues at San Diego (Navy), Chicago (Northwestern), hosting Florida State, and then closing at New York City and Los Angeles.

The Irish will have four of their first five games at home — and then only one in October and one in November. Here is the 2018 schedule:

Sept. 1 — Michigan

Sept. 8 — Ball State

Sept. 15 — Vanderbilt

Sept. 22 — at Wake Forest

Sept. 29 — Stanford

Oct. 6 — at Virginia Tech

Oct. 13 — Pittsburgh

Oct. 27 — vs. Navy (San Diego)

Nov. 3 — at Northwestern

Nov. 10 — Florida State

Nov. 17 — vs. Syracuse (Yankee Stadium)

Nov. 24 — at USC
