Notre Dame received commitment No. 5 from the 2018 class when Farmington Hills (Mich.) Harrison linebacker Ovie Oghoufo pledged to the Irish.

The Harrison standout first visited to Notre Dame in June as part of the team camp that followed the Irish Invasion. He impressed the Notre Dame staff enough to earn an offer at a position in which the Irish coaches have been stingy to throw out offers at for his class.

"It was great," Oghoufo said about that experience. "I got to compete and work with some of the coaches. They said that they just really liked my length and my athleticism ... I started the day working at the camp and then after that I took a tour around campus with [recruiting coordinator Mike Elston] and [defensive line coach Keith Gilmore]. I also got a chance to meet with the defensive coordinator."

He returned to Notre Dame today with his parents, who he wanted to get a better feel for Notre Dame. That must have gone well, as Oghoufo committed to Notre Dame early in the visit.

Oghoufo is a former teammate of Notre Dame freshman Khalid Kareem. As a junior, the 6-2, 207-pound sophomore racked up 66 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and four sacks. He earned offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Boston College, Iowa State, Syracuse and Cincinnati.
