2017 LB David Adams Breaks School Record For Career Tackles
Pittsburgh Central Catholic 2017 four-star and Notre Dame commit David Adams is considered one of the top linebackers in his class.
In a 41-0 win on the road win against North Huntingdon (Pa.) Norwin (5-4) this past Friday, Adams — who is ranked as the No. 4 inside linebacker in the class —also cemented himself as one of the best to put on a Central Catholic Vikings uniform.
The 6-2, 225-pound Adams passed Nate Williams as the all-time leading tackler in school history. Williams’ recorded 277 tackles during his Central Catholic career and Adams is now at 290 career tackles.
Williams went on to record 254 career tackles in 47 career games (31 starts) during his college career at Northwestern between 2006-10.
“I knew I was like one tackle away or something [before the game], but I wasn’t thinking about it,” Adams said. “I was just playing.”
Adams remained humble during the game when he realized he had surpassed the mark set by Williams.
“I knew I broke it after a few tackles, but I didn’t make any sort of big deal about it,” Adams said. “I just wanted to keep balling out for my guys.”
With just one more regular season game left on schedule against Pittsburgh Penn Hills (4-5), Adams has the chance to put more distance between he and the now second-place Williams.
“It means a lot,” Adams said of breaking the record. “There have been a ton of great players to go through Central and to hold the tackle record is special for me … I’ll remember it as one of my biggest accomplishments throughout high school.”
Adams said he is “obviously happy and honored to be the all-time tackler.”
Adams has been committed to Notre Dame for over seven months and has not wavered in his commitment since. He and teammate Kurt Hinish, a fellow 2017 Notre Dame commit, anchor a Central Catholic (8-1) defense that is giving up just more than 13 points per game through nine contests this season.
