Notre Dame added another major piece to its 2017 class when Beaver Falls (Pa.) High four-star defensive lineman Donovan Jeter announced his commitment to the Irish.

The 6-4, 255-pound Jeter is the 18th member of the class.

Jeter is fresh off his official visit to Notre Dame, which went very well given Jeter moved up his commitment date up more than a month in order to be part of the top-10 class Brian Kelly and company are currently piecing together.

Notre Dame is recruiting Jeter as a versatile defensive lineman who can play off the edge or at defensive tackle.

“Great football, great academics and they can win national championships,” Jeter told BlueandGold.com in August about why he would take an official to Notre Dame. “They just need more firepower. I’m all in for it, too.”

Jeter, who is ranked as the No. 14 defensive tackle in the country by Rivals.com, picked Notre Dame over Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Tennessee. Pitt was the perceived favorite in his recruitment until his visit to South Bend. Jeter’s brother Sheldon is a senior on the Panthers basketball team.

From his junior year to senior year, Jeter lost almost 50 pounds in an effort to regain his form and improve his agility and athletic ability. The senior also played well on the basketball court leading his team to a WPIAL basketball title last season.

Jeter will graduate in December and enroll early.
