As reported earlier on Rockne’s Roundtable, Fort Smith (Ark.) Northside three-star cornerback Tre Norwood will take an official visit to Notre Dame Jan. 20.

Defensive backs coach Todd Lyght was in Arkansas yesterday to meet with Norwood and his family.

“It was good getting to know him and about the university of Notre Dame program,” Norwood said of the visit. “He’s a great coach and guy.”

Getting Norwood to South Bend is big for the Irish and their chances to ultimately land him. The staff needs to add multiple cornerbacks to the class following the losses of Mansfield (Texas) High four-star Paulson Adebo and La Mirada (Calif.) High four-star Elijah Hicks.

Norwood also opened up his recruitment yesterday evening announcing via Twitter he had decommitted from Louisville. He committed to Louisville in late July.

Notre Dame offered Jan. 10 and moved quickly on the three-star visiting him the first day the contact period opened back up. Norwood is interested in Notre Dame and the staff will need to make sure he is comfortable with the Irish program in order to land his commitment given the short timeframe they are working with.

The Jan. 20 visit weekend also includes Midwest City (Okla.) High three-star safety Evan Fields and Vero Beach (Fla.) High three-star wide receiver Michael Smith.

Norwood recorded 35 tackles, two interceptions and six passes broken up during his senior campaign, which led to him being named to the first-team All-USA Arkansas by USA Today. He was also named Class 7A first-team all-state by the Arkansas Activities Association.
