Smith down to two rivals
Petey Smith from Seffner (Fla.) Armwood. It is pretty common for a recruiting battle to come down to Alabama and Auburn for prospects from the Yellowhammer State, but it is unusual for a prospect from the Sunshine State. With that being said, such is the case for 6-foot, 230-pound linebacker
"It is just those two," Smith said following Wednesday's practice at the Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando.
Following Sunday's game at the Citrus Bowl, Smith will turn his focus to make two consecutive trips to the state of Alabama to check out his two finalists.
"I have been to Auburn. I went to three or four games this past season," Smith said. "I am going to Alabama next week for an official and then Auburn the weekend after that."
Smith talked about what he likes about each of his finalists.
Auburn: "They always have a good defense. As much as the offense has struggled they always have a good defense. They always have real good linebackers. I just see myself fitting into that defense."
Alabama: "They got into the picture kind of late. Coach Saban told me that with them running the 3-4 (defense) they don't really have a big body in the middle. He told me I would be a good body in the middle to be predominantly a run-stopper. That is what he is looking for."
The three-star prospect said he doesn't plan to wait until Signing Day to make his final decision.
"I am just going to take these visits and come up with as much information as possible and go from there," Smith said. "I am going to try to decide right after those visits."
