Britt eyeing the fall

Lebanon (MO) lineman Justin Britt went from being an unknown recruit to a committed Tiger in just over a weekend. Since then, Britt has been quiet, although he joked that all linemen were. He said things had run pretty smoothly since deciding to become a Tiger in mid-June.

"I'm doing great," said Britt. "Things have been pretty relaxed over the summer since I didn't have recruiting to worry about"

Like other players, Britt has turned his attention to the upcoming season, less than two weeks away. Britt felt good about the first few weeks of camp, especially with the reprieve from the weather that have allowed for fewer breaks.

"We've been really blessed, weather-wise," said Britt. "Only bad thing has been my allergies. I think I'm allergic to everything sometimes so that's really hit me hard. Other than that, practice has gone really well. I'm ready for week 1."

Britt wasn't sure what to expect over the coming weeks when teams hit the field, but he felt confident in his teammates. He and his Yellowjacket teammates would be ready for a season that could see them end very strong late in the fall. Britt knew he would have to be a leader for a young offensive line, but didn't feel he would have to be the only leader for the team.

"We'll be fast and smart," said Britt. "Everyone will be a tough opponent but I feel we should go a long way this year. I definitely feel like one of the leaders on the team. My coach has this sign, "1/11th", which means that everyone is just as important as the next, but I have to be a leader for the younger guys."

Britt joked he needed to find a friend amongst the other Tiger commits, especially with all of the St. Louis Tigers being so close. He was happy that he wasn't the only 2009 commit from Southwest Missouri and the two new Tigers had become fast friends, even if they would be opponents later this fall.

"Alex Sanders and I are already talking about rooming together next year," said Britt. "We'll play each other in September, but I don't cover him so I have no reason to hate him. We'll both go to most of the games together this fall and were thinking about heading over to St. Louis for the game against Illinois together to hang out with the other commits."

PowerMizzou.com will have much more from Britt throughout the season, including full coverage of the game between Alex Sanders' Springfield (MO) Glendale and Britt's Lebanon Yellowjackets. Tiger fans will get their first look at Britt as he travels to Columbia for a Jamboree this Friday evening at Hickman.
