Allen receiver hoping for a UT offer
Uzoma Nwachukwu drove down to Austin on Saturday, he had a full understanding of the task that was in front of him.As Allen (Texas) High wide receiver
With the Texas Longhorns almost out of scholarships for the 2009 class, Nwachukwu knew full well that if he had any chance of earning an offer from the Texas coaching staff, he'd need to perform at an elite level at their one-day camp.
According to numerous sources from the camp, Nwachukwu not only excelled on Sunday, but he proved to be one of the top performers at the camp.
"The camp went real well," Nwachukwu said. "I think I did a pretty good job of running routes and doing all of the things they wanted me to do. "Me and Coach (Bobby) Kennedy talked a lot throughout the day. He's a really nice guy and a great coach. He's really funny and we talked about a lot of random stuff. He made me feel very comfortable while I was down there. I also talked with Coach (Mack) Brown a lot. He was impressed with my film and with my 40 time. He knows I'm a good student."
Yes, it's clear that the Longhorns like Nwachukwu, who has offers from the likes of Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Arkansas and others, but will they pony up and hand out a scholarship to the 6-1, 186-pound receiver.
"He told me that they are going to sit down as a staff and evaluate me," Nwachukwu said. "I'm not sure if they are going to offer another receiver, but they might use one of their last three offers there. Texas is always going to be a top-notch school and it's cool having them recruit me. Texas is always going to be a dream school of mine."
As far as the competition on Sunday is concerned, Nwachukwu was quick to hand out praise to some of the participants on hand.
"I went against the corner from Euless (Trinity) and I went against (Marcus Davis)," Nwachukwu said. "(Davis) tried to jam me and I was able to get off the line, but as the pass was coming he was able to get his hands in to break up the pass. He's a good player. There was really a lot of good competition out there. Greg Timmons is a pretty good athlete, too."
