UW still on the radar for Texas star
Kerry Cooks is hoping to ride his recent success into the current crop with his eyes on one of the top prospects in the country, four-star recruit Austin Moss. After signing three prospects from the state of Texas in the 2008 recruiting class, Wisconsin assistant coach
The 6-foot-2, 210-pound outside linebacker from Rockwall (TX) Heath currently holds scholarship offers from Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Virginia, Wisconsin and TCU. He continues to garner interest from a number of other schools, as well.
"Well, in the last two or three weeks I've received offers from TCU, Arkansas, Baylor and Arizona," Moss told BadgerBlitz.com Wednesday night. "Those have been the most recent offers. I'm really looking at the character qualities of the coaches. Also, I'll be looking at the overall program, how the coaches teach and things like that.
"Yeah, Wisconsin is still recruiting me, although I haven't really received any mail from them lately," Moss said "But yeah, you could say that they recruiting me. My recruiting coach is Kerry Cooks, but I haven't really talked to him in awhile.
Moss, who recently made the move from South Garland to Rockwall Heath, maintains he does not have a favorite at this point in the recruiting cycle.
"I'm still considering everyone," Moss said. "I don't have any favorites as of now. I'm still looking over all the schools and what they have to offer. This summer I was actually thinking about taking a trip to Wisconsin. But, I don't have any favorites.
"I went to the Texas and Texas A&M junior days. I also had a chance to make up to Oklahoma's junior day. Those schools are going to come and check me out in the spring and evaluate me from there. I'm not sure yet, if I was to get an offer, it wouldn't be anytime soon. It would probably be during spring football or during my senior season."
Coupled with a lack of communication, Wisconsin may not be a great geographic fit for Moss, who said he wants to stay close to home to play college football.
"I would like to stay close to home; it would just be a little bit more comfortable for me," he said. "That may not play that big of a role because several of the schools that have offered me are from a pretty good distance away.
Moss plans on attending the Rivals.com Skills Clinic while visiting the other schools on his radar this summer.
"No, I don't plan on attending any camps this summer," he said. "I know this spring I'll be attending the Rivals.com Skills Clinic. I really don't plan on attending any camps, mainly just visiting some schools that have offered."
Wisconsin currently has three verbals in the 2009 class: Shelby Harris, Ryan Groy and Jordan Kohout.
